DINING

Taking the next step

For years now, I’ve been planning to provide supper meal service for our guests. After completing the Bonavista Institute for Cultural Tourism course this past fall, I’m delighted to report that my oven mitts are on and I’m ready to start cooking. My goal is to provide a daily menu based on the local goodies I’m able to provide. I’ve contacted our amazing local growers and local fishermen, who are delighted to provide food that will be enjoyed by visitors coming to the region.

This past year I have been thinking about what I’m going to cook. Having had the privilege to both travel and live outside of Canada, I gravitate to recipes that focus on local fare, with an international twist. I’m thinking instead of serving traditional local dishes that you can sample at our excellent local restaurant "Nanny’s Root Cellar Kitchen" (you also get a 15% discount for being our guests when you enjoy a meal at Nanny’s), I’m going to offer dishes that are not common to the menus offered by other restaurants in the province.

The menu will change on a daily basis and will be posted on our website, or you can call ahead 1-866-346-2473 or 709-468-5971. Meal service will only be offered to guests staying at Bird Island Inn B & B, so the setting will be small and intimate. I’m still working on set times and how best to be flexible, as I learn how to best accommodate plans guests have for their day of exploring - or relaxing!

Catering to your Dietary Needs

We understand that a set menu can be difficult for those with special diets or allergies. If you would like a meal that is vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and/or diabetic friendly, please let me know and I’ll accommodate your needs.
